I think people (not just men) do have a problem with it. Think about it. In the workplace, if a women in a supervisor position needs something done and exercises her authority to accomplish that, people call her b!tchy. But, if a man in the supervisor position exercises his authority to get something done, people see him as a good leader. If a man satisfies his sexual needs by going out to a bar and taking home some random girl, most people will call him a stud or a player. If a woman satisfies her sexual needs that way, people, even her friends, call her a S!ut.

I don't think people really CHOOSE to have a problem with it. It's just that those are the social "norms" that we're raised to uphold. Once you're around it so long, it's easy to not notice (until you're the one getting gossiped about). People CAN choose, however, to not have a problem with it.

Generally, I don't think so, not in the Western countries. However, if you're independent and strong-willed to the point of not being respectful of other ppl's needs/feelings, then whether you're a guy or a girl, people will have a problem with that.

I don't know if there are "a lot of people" who have a problem with women who are independent and strong willed; but, as a female teacher who has strong beliefs in my methods of education and what methods I believe can succeed with young people, I can tell you there are many superintendents and principals who do not, and have not agreed with me.

My resume will indicate a loss of several teaching and non-teaching jobs: None, of course, due to my independence and strong will. I was belligerent, uncooperative with administration. Men also experience this.

Yes I do. I think many people are shocked when a woman gets in their face or just stands up for what she feels strongly about. And I say, keep doing it because it is about time the country had good strong women in charge! Men can be great leaders, women can to with a female flair.

People that have problems with others and how they may show their independance usually have insecurities of their own which they are unable to resolve. This makes it more difficult for them to be accepting of anyone that is different or falls from what they consider the norm.

Only people who are insecure of themselves..

it's common to see a woman take charge. In my university, the women take charge and become leaders and direct conversation like more than half of the time and it's pretty cool.

The whole "women can't be leaders" thing will end pretty soon

Women like that mostly come in two different packages. The ones that are total witches and the ones that have confidence. The ones that have confidence and brains don't have to act like the witches.

I only have a problem with the witches.

Like a few other posters said, probably not; if that woman is not merely strong-willed but is also bitchy, however, there will certainly be a few people (including myself) who take issue with her.

I'd say that SOME people still do. I'd like to hope that it's not A LOT of people. Unfortunately, it definitely happens.
