Unfortunately, there is very little you can claim in that situation. It's one of the injustices of the system - you work and show initiative and put your heart and soul into something, and suffer for it.
If you decided instead to do drugs and lay about all day, you could be housed and fed by the state, and even get an allowance for your dog!
It's a mad, mad world.

Edit: maybe this source could give you some info, and also it's worth a visit to CAB, and a long chat with your accountant/tax advisor.

You can claim job-seekers allowance but it really isnt very much. My partner is self-employed and was out of work about 2 years ago for a few weeks, and it was only about £80 every two weeks (hardly pays the bills and buys food). But anything is great when you have nothing. Also, if you live in rented accommodation you could try and apply for housing benefit to help you out.

What about working tax credits or family tax credits (UK) they are dependant on your income so if you are earning under there specified amount you could be entitled to make a claim. I think sometimes you can get crisis loans to help you out in times of hardship. Go see some one at your citizen advice bureau they will inform you of the different things you could do.
