You might want to check your hosts file...

In windows xp the hosts file is usually located under
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
You will have to open the hosts file with notepad, but it should contain some information Quoted out by the # sign's and usually one entry..

127.0.0.1 localhost

If you find an entry that says yahoo, Delete it, or put a # sign in front of it and save the file ex:
#125.208.166.221 yahoo.com

This means your host file was changed to redirect you when you type yahoo.com in your address bar to another server..

putting the # sign will cause the computer to ignore that line..

you could also look what programs you have in add and remove programs, and remove the programs that look like spyware. i am very sure that this is some addware you accidentally downloaded that makes the popups come out for you.
