Just dont mess with anything in the System folder, or pretty much the Windows folder overall. And NEVER mess with the Registry, that can be disasterous. However, there is a free program called Eusing Registry cleaner that is quite helpful. This wont really free up any more HD space, but it can help make your system a little quicker and smoother. If you have a CD burner, a good way to free up some space would be to take the programs you dont use all that much,or programs that are just enormous in file size, and burn them onto a disc that can be utilized whenever needed. Also, keep in mind if you have alot of media files on your computer, like songs, video clips etc., those take up a whole lot of room. Even mp3's, being as small as they are, can add up quick. You might want to burn all your media unto a disc as well. If you dont have a CD burner, you can use a usb flash drive if you have one(but unless it holds at least 1 Gb or more, it wont hold very much as far as media files) But if you have neither one, all you can really do is remove unwanted things. Or you can use a program like WinRAR and compress these huge files into an archive, that will save a little bit of space.

If you delete ANYTHING to do with or in the WINDOWS folder you will stuff your computer and it won't work. DO NOT delete any kind of O/S file such as dll sys etc. To make some space clean up your emails and get rid of what you don't actually need. Any useless programs you may have that either don't do what you wanted or you don't want them any longer can be removed by going to START/ Control Panel/ Add & Remove Programs and delet ones you don't want. Empty your Internet cache as that is a hidy hole for heaps of crap from every web site you ever visited.

Compress your hard drive - open the HD and then click properties and check the box "compress the drive ".

Then go to this MS web site and get your computer cleaned and tuned up for free: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah click FULL SERVICE SCAN. It will clean out the crap, fix any problems, defrag your drive and check for viruses and spyware and get rid of them.

If all else fails - go buy a bigger HD between 200 and 500 GB and install it or get someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you, then you should never run out of space with tons of stuff.

If you go to Live Care once a month and get your computer cleaned and checked it will keep running well.

Have you ran your defrag lately or clean up disk apace. That always helps me out. Then go into start, settings, control panel, add remove programs and make sure there isn't a lot of stuff that you don't need in there. Make sure not to take out anything that you aren't sure about though. But if you added something recently and it isn't being used, delete it then keep it there in case you need to restore it. You may just get rid of things you no longer ues. I think defrag is better if you aren't sure what to do. Good luck.

You dont want to go through and start deleting files, what you need to do is use the add remove programs function, this will fully remove a program...

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and click Add or Remove Programs.
Here you will be able to see the size of each program installed on your computer, start with the biggest files first, and see if it is a program you dont need anymore......

I personally use CCleaner to get rid of those system files that are just taking up space without doing anything for the comp.

Run windows disk cleanup. It should skip files that are vital to the running of your machine.
