I just purchased a HP printer, I didn't realize that the USB cable needed to be purchased seperately.

So, is there a specific USB or are they all the same?

All printers have the same USB cable, and that's a high-speed USB cable. It does need to be purchased separately.

The USB cable is already available with the new printers.

If not purchase any USB cable relavant to your port and u will get the software cd or floppy along with that and u can just install the same and use,

Test this and come back to us for any further clarrification

what you need is a device cable. the end that goes in the printer looks like the letter "D" and the end that goes in your computer is a rectangle shape. mostly all printers use the same USB cable. just tell the guy behind the counter what you need and you will be fine.

They are basically all the same. There are a few models which have a longer cord so they can reach items that are placed farther apart. (You'll be abble to tell which ones they are since they will be more expensive as well.)
