because they were the go-to guys on the team. carter left for new jersey where kidd and jefferson were other scoring options. mike james went to minnesota where he has to defer to KG. jalen rose got a lot of playing time for toronto, but when he went to the knicks,he was benched,as is the case for him right now with phoenix.

It's true and I also agree to an extent with the above comment.
With Rose, he's not getting the 30+ mins he was getting with the Raps.
James, has really only had one stand out year in his whole career and parlayed that into a fat contract, he's always going to be a 2 playing the 1 spot. He's too selfish to be a PG.
Vince Carter, his stats are actually almost the same as back in the day. In fact in some respects better. The only year he was better was 2000/01 when they had that playoff run and lost to Philly on the last shot. I like Vince, its a shame he never really has had the passion like McGrady, Wade, Bryant etc. For raw talent and athleticism he could've been one of the best.

Also other players who left Toronto are much better now like Tracy McGrady, Marcus Camby, Damon Stoudemire.

But I think that's their current roster is quite good and deep, I like the rookies, I like the two point guards, Bosh etc. This team has a bright future.

i think it happens with a lot of players. they will enter a team that is not doing too well... a team that is sitting towards the bottom of their division. that team needs a go to guy....and so they become that person. the focal point of the offence. then when they leave they usually enter a team that is better then the team they were previously on...and because they do, they are no longer the focal point, but rather a complimentary player to the other focal points in the team....it happens all the time....

to a lesser extent, allen iverson offensively doesnt need to score as many points now, and subsequently his output of points has gone down....carmello is the focal point, iverson compliments him

Actually, Vince Carter's stats are way higher now that he left T-Dot.
