Because games and 3D graphics are the most demanding applications you can run. You need lots of memory, processing power, and the best graphics card you can get to get the most out of those intensive applications.

Gaming and 3D graphics is what drives the computer market to constantly improve. Otherwise modern computers are overkill for word processing and the internet.

Alienware computers always cost a lot more, because.. well, Alienwares are like high-performance sport cars. You're not only paying for the parts, you're also paying for the name. They also have really great customer service... Though, Alienware have always been known as jacking up their prices, but I'd say it's worth it if you have a lot of cash to burn.

When you look at "high performance", you also have to think, "What kind of people will be getting high performance from it?" HP might define "high performance" as something that's fast from a processor standpoint, and something that has more memory than average, just so people get "high performance" when listening to music and editing video and stuff, whereas "Alienware", a gaming company, will define it as something that's quick for gamers.

My 800 dollar rig would do the exact same and in some cases get higher performance than "Alienware". I thought an Alienware was the top of the line... When I was in 7th grade! Build your own computer and save tons of money!

Also Alienware's normally have intel i7's in them. I won't deny that Intel processors have way higher performance, if you want a gaming computer just for gaming and normal things -even video rendering for youtube- AMD will be suitible. A quad core or higher. I have and FX 6300 vishera at base clock with a Radeon R7 260x and I built it myself.

Bottom line Alienware is junk and their power supplies and cooling generally suck and it is hard on the "high end gaming" components.

Hope this helped

Supply & Demand. Super Video Cards are expensive. It doesn't cost the company any more to make a 2gb memory chip than a 128mb and It doesn't cost the Video card company any more to make a 32mb vid card than a 512mb but it sure does cost Dell & Alienware more to buy these components from the weasels of these foreign parts suppliers. They can be produced cheaper if we resort to the same slave labor and inferior quality that these cheaper companies employ.

just paying for the name and your not really getting top of the line everything. you can build your own for a fraction fo the cost for an alienware computer. I built one for $1500 and blows those away.

1) They have the highest end components.
2) Sometimes these PC components are tweaked to give maximum performance
3) When you buy an alienware PC they generally give a game, their themes, and various other merchandise for free.

because they're worth it.

alienware designs their own motherboards and graphics cards, which are usually the best in the business.

if you want quality, go alienware, if you want quantity, go HP.

HP's are mass produced so you can buy one from Wal-Mart. Every Alienware is built to YOUR specs. the way YOU want it.

Because they tend to have the fastest processors, top of the line graphics cards and loads of RAM. Like anything if you want the best then you have to pay top dollar.
