If you know them enough to care about their rep.
If it's someone I really, really, really care about, I wouldn't tell them because one, I don't care that they have a booger hanging out I like them anyway, and two, I wouldn't want to tell them because they might think that it was bothering me. If it was just someone I know as a slight friend, I would tell them.
