I have been given conflicting advice from different surgeons. One Doctor tells me to lose weight, the other one states it does not matter. Last year, I went on Atkins and lost all of my weight and my breast size did not change. Although I have recently regained the weight, still my breast size is the same. My neck, shoulders and back are constantly hurting, and I have to sleep in my bra to be comfortable. Is my weight really an issue when it comes to a breast reduction?

Go to a plastic surgeon. They will send in papers and pictures and get approval.

SOME insurance companies want you to lose weight.

MY insurance company did not need me to lose weight, they only had a gram removal requirement.

It also depends on how much fatty tissue versus dense tissue is in your breast. I worked out and lost weight and didn't lose ANY in the breast.

Good luck!

I would say the concern with your weight is due to the fact that they have to put you under general anaesthetic to complete the breast reduction - meaning - the more weight you are carrying the higher the risk due to the anaesthetic and the strain on your heart.....maybe that the reason for the surgeons concerns??? Good luck to you!

I have heard that when you undergo surgery, you have to be in your best shape. I believe so you recover better. But my mother is a little over 300 pounds and has Double I's....not kidding. And the doctors will not give her a reduction, and she desperately needs one.

Your neck, shoulder and back pain could be due to your weight not just your breasts. If you lost the weight last year, why did you put it back on? Stay healthy and active. If you lose the weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle (none of this fad diet crap), and still have problems, you can get surgery and it'll be safer because you'll be healthy!

since you lost it and your breasts didnt change much then its really not an issue for you personally, just find a doctor that will do it.
