I put a new battery in there started every day for about a month
Then i tried to start it there was nothing. I brought it to a shop they put on a new starter. Went to pick it up no problems next day same thing. Brought back down to the shop a new starter relay started right up a month later same thing. I had to jump it the battery was reading normal untill i gave it gas then it was at 18. the amp light is on. I opened the door the engine reved higher. Let it ran for an hour got out closed the door with it still running the truck shut off tried to start back up nothing no lights. Put the jumper cables back on turned the key started right up put in reverse stalled. im thinking voltage regulater or the diode in the alternator or maybe a short in the wires maybe all three

u more then likely need an alternator. When ur truck was on it used all the juice from the battery and didn't recharge it cuz of the bad alternator. If you had a short your battery would die while the car was shut off for a few days

voltage reg or/and alternator. I had a problem with a 84 F150 and there was a relay behind the glove box that had welded contacts and was putting a drain on the battery.
Double check for other problems so when you put in the alternator it doesn't tear the new one up.

If you were measuring 18 volts at the battery, your system is putting out too much voltage. At least it was at that moment. It must not charge at other times.
You need to put a professional tester on it and get some accurate readings so you will know what is going on.

Good luck....

Could be alternator, or a draw causing your battery to go dead.If the voltmeter was at 18volts then yes your regualtor is pooched.Recommend trying a alternator.(alternator connections on ford were notorious for burning up.Good luck

its either you have a bad alternator, or your alternator belt is loose and needs to be tightened, if your motor is making a squeeling sound then that is for sure the problem
