I am sorry and sad to say that Pakistan have a very slim chance of winning this time.
1) Just today PCB announced that they are applying for permission for Asif and Akhtar to play because they have been cleared. This sort of indecision is not good for the morale of the team or the pace duo.
2) Without Asif and Akhtar the pace attack lacks the fire power to run through quality batting line-ups like RSA, India and Australia.
Naveed is very expensive, Sami is also, Arafat is patchy and so is Kaneria.
3) Pakistan has never had a solid and dependable opening combination since Anwar retired.
4) In their batting department not a single player is in the sort of peak form required to carry a team through such a big tournament, not even Yousuf.
5) Afridi is temperamental at best, Inzy seems to have lost his touch and Akmal- Younis seem to do well only in tests against India.
6) Their fielding is incredibly sloppy and the drive is missing.

Teams having the most chance of winning (in descending order):
South Africa
Australia
India
West Indies
New Zealand
Sri Lanka
England
Pakistan

once again man it hurts me to say this because they are a side i have supported for so long and can be a great team on their day.

First of all there is nothing like chances. We have to ply with the best of our ability and give our 100% to win.See how kenya reached the semifinals of the 2003 world cup.Cricket does not depend on luck entirely. But seeing at pakistan they have lost some key pacers. If they enter the quaterfinals it will be a surprise. The most chances are of aussies and the south africans .Least are pakistan and sri lanka .

Pakistan are troubled by doping scandal and internal squabbles. Moreover the coach has become an alien. Pakistan will have to fight it out to make it to the last four.Pakistan not certainly in a position to win the cup. Who knows miracles might and Pakistan might as well be on the winning side.Wishing every side in the Cup play, "All the best"

Pakistan have absolutely no chance to even reach the semis. They are without their main strike bowlers - Shoaib and Asif. Next thing is that they are not in good form at present. Pakistan have almost no match winners right now. Inzy is out of form. Mohd Yusuf is dicey in ODIs, Akmal is badly out of form, Afridi is the most unreliable player in the whole world, etc, etc.

If pakistan has to win the world cup, Asif and Akthar should play in the world cup. They are the main strike bowlers and espesially asif has the ability to pierce any of the opponents top order. Without them they might go upto second stage.

Pakistan is a team whose probability of performance deviates from the trend line by a huge margin... Unpredictable.... while considering the facts... they don;t have chances of reaching even to the semi-finals.......
The teams in my opinion that have chances of wining are
1. Australia 2. Newzeland 3. Srilanka 4. S.Africa
i choose them on thier strength of playing as a unit and their ability to come back from a worse situation.

Pakistanis are able to win the world cup but truly speaking it is quite difficult to do this with team spirit, Shoaib Akhtar and M Asif.
