Hormones don't do anything to voice, despite what the other people say. The voice training is typically better than the surgery, after surgery you have to have voice training anyways, so might as well just do the work. It is very difficult, but with practice it can be done I know. Most of the surgery results are not satisfactory and sometimes permanent voice loss happens. Yes they can, though these are very risky procedures that can damage your voice, and hormones will not change the range, just the pitch. The better route (and quite often the more realistic route) is Voice Coaching rather than surgery. Going that direction, often voice training is needed to get a passable voice. I have also heard of surgical procedures, but the extreme risk, cost, and lack of availability of places for the procedure(s) has limited the use of this method.

Surgery is overkill. Hormones will do the trick.
