As a chemist, I really dont know that much biology but I have always been very interested in the following question: Do you know of any cases where there is biological activity in the crystalline state?

anything biologically relevant in solid state would work for me.

Yeah, lipid bilayers are in a liquid crystalline state which is kind of common in cells, but I an curious if there are any cases where you have a crystalline state.

If I recall correctly, lipid bilayers exist in a fluid crystalline state. Not sure if that's what you meant, but that's the only example I know of.
