Chinua Achebe's basic argument is that Joseph Conrad is a blatant racist and that his book should be banned. Really, that's it. Achebe tends to attack Conrad instead of Marlowe, the main character. He uses many examples from Heart of Darkness, such as the descriptions of the "natives". The point of the essay though is to highlight an extreme approach and to get the reader to contemplate Conrad's choice of diction and opinion.
