Personally, I think he was a rather sensitive, shy man who drank to cope with his own insecurities and stage fright. He also had troubled relationships. I have read and heard stories about Pamela Courson and what she was like.

yeah i think he did too! cuz he was an artist, a poet and no one looked deep inside of him to see who he truly was! all some saw was a bad example for everyone who drank and took drugs and spent his time making love to unknown women, others who liked him only saw him as a sex symbol and a handsome man so i'm sure that's why in the end he got all depressed, took on a heck of a lot of weight and grew a beard, so that he could say 'see, i'm more than all that cr*p' ... he was an amazing time and it saddens me that he died this way cuz he was such an incredible man, he released his first excellent album at 24 years old and in only 4 years, he released 6 awsome and original albums... what a man!

Nah, just a pompous, spoiled primadona character evolved out of his complexes & cowardice. He's the first emo ever, before they had the term. Then, fed by success, his frightened, tiny ego grew beyond proportions and he, believing he was invincible, drugged & drank himself to death.
