I would like to have people add ideas and blog entries to the site. Anything else I need? New to the game....

Are you using a CMS (Content management system) if so, then just allowing them to write articles will do the trick. If you want each person to have "blog space" then the addition of something like wordpress to your site will let them do just that.

I found myself in the same situation a little while ago. I've done a little research, I ended up setting up a community of a forum type which allows users to register and setup profiles. I've since installed PMs and such. but was looking for a type of blogger in which the useres could use. Most of which I used was open source at very little to no cost to me. Have a look at the community I had built. If this is something you would be interested in doing or it's around about what you had in mind then look me up and I can provide you with links on how to do so.
