Some people believe that monogamous relationships directly conflict with the hard-wiring (instinctual directive) of our species. What do you think?

Those that refute the theory that monogamy can be obtained and sustained are those seeking excuses to "sleep around". The instinctual programming of having multiple partners was to promote survival of the fittest type of humans, and since the human race is no longer in the beginning stages that theory goes out the window. Monogamy is the ideal choice for the least chance of catching diseases and promoting better health to offspring. Just my opinion.

Science has indicated that our animal instincts call for multiple partners. However, after hundreds of thousands of years of development, our culture now demands that we maintain monogamous relationships.

Very few animals practice monogamous relationships and, as far as I can determine, none of them are primates. So, we are alone in that respect.

While against our nature and difficult to remain faithful for both sexes at times, I think our monogamous relationship is an important part of our culture and has done well to distinguish and separate us from the animals since our beginning. Yes, unnatural but a blessing.

I happened to see a Dr Phil show I will never forget: the poor guy (a big handsome man, obviously full of testosterone and such) trying to make everyone else (and above all, himself) believe that every man who ever had an affair is a TRAITOR! The sound of hundreds of women bravoing and clapping following them, they walked out of the studio, hand in hand with his small, peppery wife. She was leading the way, dragging him behind like a reluctant toddler. Oh what a sad sight it was ...

As a species, I believe that men are supposed to father a lot of children, this done by spending time with a lot of women. Culturally, this theory just falls apart. Couples want monogamy and small families.

I do agree with the Theory. But then again, if there is someone whom you really love, you can belong to that person---body,heart and soul----forever.Some people have been known to be very happy in monogamous relationships.Weird, but its true.

Ideal and NECESSARY situation for CERTAIN. I know first-hand. I am completely obsessed with my boyfriend and everything about him. Every single other man on this planet actually (not to be rude) DISGUSTS me when I even attempt to think of them "that way". I'm obsessed with every feature of my boyfriend's body--every eyelash, every freckle, and every line in the palms of his hands. I do not desire anyone else, ever.

Well to be lawfully wedded in the USA is illegal but it is not illegal to cohabitate and be married in the "Biblical" Sense. I personally do not believe in it, but I have heard of cases of it happening very successfully.
