My husband's family has a tradition for all first born boys. They name them "Joe"and the middle name must begin with an "A". I love tradtion, and I think Joe Jr. is so cute! However, for the middle name I want "Atom", spelled exactly like that. My hubby likes it, my sister who is a teacher says it is DUMB! What to do?

Atom is also a great source of energy!

Well if you and your husband both like it, then I really don't think it should matter what your sister thinks. I mean respect her opinion, but it is just that an opinion. When my sister was having a baby she asked my opinion on names but ultimately the final decision was up to her and her husband. I think its a cute variation on the spelling and I love the tradition Joe Jr is so cute!

i think its cute, you don't have to do the traditional Adam. I have a friend named Mike but spelled Myk. I think Atom is cute and you & your husband agree so your sister's opinion is not that important, it is your child!

If its traditional you want then I wouldn't go for Atom. It might seem nice now but remember baby might not thank you for it when he's older. Why not go for something more traditional. Good Luck.

I prefer Adam personally. Atom sounds odd to me. It reminds me of Atom Egoyan. But as long as both you and your hubby like it it's nobody else's business.

It's not your sister's descision what to name YOUR baby. I think it's great! It's a little like Adam, and that's a good strong name. My grandmother gave my dad the middle name ALOYSIUS. Tell that one to your sister!

Atom is a dumb name - its a very very very very very dumb name. If you like the soundof it save your reputation in the family and go w Adam.

I think it's great and very unique(so is the tradition)...GO FOR IT! Does sis have any children? Would she take or have taken the criticizm very well . Ignore it, you and daddy-to-be picked it out together and both agree and like it...SO USE IT!
