Take him to Vegas, (most guys like that), but that's not the surprise. At the Vegas motor speedway, (just North of Las Vegas, 30 minutes or so from the strip), you can let him drive a REAL Indy race car!

Trust me, it was terrific!!!!!

It doesn't NEED to be Vegas, they do it in a lot of cities with NASCAR or Indy car tracks.

I don't know how good the Jeff Gordon experience is, I was told to avoid the Richard Petty school, (only went 90mph, most of us have done that one time or another on the freeway.....not too exciting)

Andretti claims up to 140mph for their least expensive package, (6 laps, ~$425), buy the two extra laps, ($100), their at TOP SPEED!!!!)

If he doesn't want to drive, he can ride at 180mph with a pro driver!

Don't see how you could go wrong. Unless he hates to go fast, then ignore this idea

Luck

Go do something you don't normally do: go to a carnival, the zoo, something public where you can eat cheap bad food and act like teenagers again. Bring a camera.

Hard to say without knowing you two. If you're both into sports, it could be hot dogs at a ball game. Recapture some youth somehow.

If you want to suprise him, you should get him something he most likely wouldn't ask for but would greatly APPRECIATE it.Us men are still kids at heart. Get him a cool toy. A remote control car, or plane. Show him you love him for the man he has become, but also show him you love him because you think his boyish qualities are what attracted you to him also. Toys will go futher than some mushy card, or flowers. Stimulate his inner child if your wanting to impress. Go to a gadget web site. They have all sorts of grown up toys that us men would think is cool as hell.
