THANJAVUR in Tamil Nadu
This temple was built by the Chola ruler Rajaraja I. This temple is noted for its architecture, sculpture and painting.
It is composed of many interconnected structures such as Nandi pavilion, a pillared portico and a large hall. Its Vimana (a temple like structure having three cellar walls in which the Deity is enshrined) is 66 metres high. The inner walls of the temple have extensive sculptures and paintings. The tower of the temple rises to a height of 57 metres, like a pyramid in three successive stories. Its top has a single block of stone, 8 metres high and weighs about 80 tonnes.

Brihadhiswara temple is situated in Thanjavur, in tamilnadu. You can reach THanjavur from chennai directly through state transport buses which go directly to thanjavur or by train rockfort express. The temple is very big and is an architectural wonder. The kalasam weighs eighty tons and is granite. It is a wonder then how the stone was lifted to that height in those times, when there were no modern machines.Temple also has one of the biggest lingas (siva) and one of the biggest nandhi. Looking at the temple makes one smaller and makes one think of the ALMIGHTY GOD.
