Only if you have a reliable surge protector like those found in better power bars and in any UPS. ALthough if the power goes out or spikes, you may lose data which make UPS (uninterruptable power supply the best bet.

In November my computer got hit by lightening.. the surge came down thru the network cable and wiped out the mother board..the power supply was not damaged at all. I did not have a surge protector. My computer was back at the factory for 3months.. WHAT A DRAG. If you have any special photos or work you can't live without, back it up.. I had backed up my stuff about 2 weeks prior onto a flash disk.. not everything, but the important stuff.. I will never use mine in a storm again.. I am going to do a back up right now..

My Friend had her computer into a surge-protector and lightning took it out, but her computer was on.
I also have a surge-protector but still close my computer down during storms.
I believe a surge-Protector is able to block a surge of electricity that could cause a lot of damage.
I use to leave my own at all times, except during storms, but my computer began to have all kinds of problems. So now I close it down each night and the problems disappeared. There still is a quirk.

My best advise shut down your computer if you know a lightning storm is coming. Here is a link on how surge protectors work.

i have always felt safer with a ups setup. the circuitry of apc and tripp lite prevents surge but provides big time insurance if it fails and most important it keeps the current constantly because it is coming from a battery like in your car. for a hundred or so you get all these benefits. i got hit by lightning about seven years ago and apc paid fora whole new system immediately. so it is not bogus. strongly rec.

You might be okay. The worst that can happen is a surge that burns out your power supply. They cost about $20 and are easy to replace.

It is safe & Unsafe Both.
I Mean if you have Proper Grounding ( Earthing Done) It is Safe. But make sure you do not have a Broadband ( Cable Internet ). It is not safe if you have a broadband or Grounding is not proper.

I think it could break your computer. Well only if the light goes and back several times. I turn off even my TV lol

No, don't trust it. Disconnect both the power and the internet connection.
