Okay, I have some basic information but I am having a hard time tying it all together and adding twists to the story. I think one of my problems is that I write the beginning or scenes of a story before I know what's actually going to happen later on or how a charcter got in that particular situation. Please, can someone give me some advice? Is there any orderly way to go about this?

Why don't you try to write backwards, start off with the plot, what the main story is about, build some characters and then build the characters history, it'll allow you to be creative.

I think it's best to sketch some rich characters first. Then, put them in motion, let THEM tell the story.
