I have the windows vista so i figuered everything should work fine right? Wrong. I can't get into chat rooms that are worth the time, and I can't ever hear anything. I don't have a mic but why can i not hear other people?

The answer to your Question can be 3 answres.

1. Slow Internet Connection
2. Chatting Blocked on your network.
3. Chatting Script which is downloaded to your system is corrupted.

For the first 2 there is nothing much you can do except change the ISP.

If your chatting script is corrupted Go to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files and delete the Internet Plugins that are installed.

If you have something which you need they would be downloaded again.

Go to tools internet options advanced and reset the websettings to default.

Delete the Temperory Internet Files also.

If you need any further assistance please get back to me.

It depend on what kind of chat you are talking about...

Is it a chat on a website or a chat like MSN?

If it's a website chat you probably need to update your Java Software.

Download it and install it.
Adter restart your computer it should work.

Or try to repair your windows version.
The Ultimate problem resolve is to format after reinstall everything.
