I want to go back to school to finish my BA. I'm 30 years old and the last semester I was in school my grades dropped. I really want this, though, and have my eye on a very competitive program. How do I convince them I can do this?

Who do you want to convince? The school or your family/friends?

For schools/universities, it is perfectly normal to have mature students come and apply. (They usually call students from about 20 or 21 years old and above mature students/mature applicants and there are certain special requirements for them. Just check the website of the university you want to apply to or visit the university yourself. ) I'm sure they would understand even by simply explaining your part or reason. There are so many people like you who want to continue their education. There's always a way. :)

If you'd want to convince your family or friends, just do what you got to do. Apply, enroll, study and do your very best at whatever degree you're taking. They just want to see that you really are working hard for whatever you're taking. And even if they don't believe in you, it's not your problem. You've got a choice to react about something you can't control (their not believing in you) and loose what you need/want to get or you can start doing what you know you can control and can do (doing your very best for that competative program) and prove them wrong.

Whatever happens, just don't give up. Keep trying and trust in God.

I wish you all the best!!! :)
