You can get a manicure but I would have then not polish your nails. Just get they buffed because your guitar strings will probably disturb your polish.
Manis usually last about 2 weeks.

Long nails are out of the question that is for sure. Personally, I would love to splurge and get a manicure every once in awhile, but I'm a musician and I play guitar every day and getting a manicure would essentially be a waste of money. If you do end up getting a manicure, be prepared for a lot of chips and touch ups!

As a fellow guitarist and female I know exactly how you feel.
You can get a manicure at anytime! Just know your nail polish will eventually chip (if you play everyday you may need to get a manicure every other week).
And, just as a personal tip of advice get a color that you already have in you house so that when it chips and you have a big date the next night you can fix it in a snap and you nails and hands will look and feel great.
=)

I can never hold the strings down properly with my hand if i get long nails.
I always have to cut my nails when i play guitar, i had them nicely grown up until last night when i wanted to play guitar.
I wouldn't do it, because they just get in the way!! you can have nice short nails!

Sure, once the nail polish dries and you don't have very long fake nails. Once you begin getting manicures, you must continue at least once per month.

Of course you can!
The manicure would need to be redone once it looks bad. If you don't want to re-do it everytime, just use nail polish remover yourself.

if you are right handed close cut nails on your left hand are advisable but if you play classical you will probably want to cultivate your picking hand for long nails .As often as it is required to maintain them may vary depending on your rate of growth.
