Johnson was president from November 22, 1963 to January, 1969.

Richard Nixon was president from January 1969 to August 8, 1974.

The Vietnam War finally ended during the presidency of Gerald Ford in April, 1975.

Robert McNamara was Secretary of Defense during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.

I am assuming you know what the President and Secretary of Defense do in terms of running a war. The current war is actually a very good example of how Vietnam went.

I will give you one. He was Sec of Defense when Kennedy was in. He was very well educated, and supported anti-communism, but in the end had this to say:
"We of the Kennedy and Johnson administrations who participated in the decisions on Vietnam acted according to what we thought were the principles and traditions of this nation. We made our decisions in light of those values. Yet we were wrong, terribly wrong. We owe it to future generations to explain why. I truly believe that we made an error not of values and intentions, but of judgment and capabilities."

Later on he became President of the World Bank I think. You should read about this. It will be easier to remember for a test.

WHen you read about Nixon you probably will not forget.
