I think it was straight out of the Coach K Dirty Play book.
Coach K had lots of ideas on what Williams should have done, but since he continued to play until the injury, Coach K was above the things he thought Williams should have done.
I've seen Duke run up scores in lots of games. Ten points is NOT a blow out. Not between these two teams.
Another play from Coach K's book........
March 28, 1992: Duke's Christian Laettner shows he's not perfect when, with eight minutes left in the second half of the East Regional final, he stomps on the chest of a fallen Kentucky player, drawing a technical.
Laettner should have been suspended also. But the Duke image kept him in the game.

All you UNC fans can shove it. Gerald Henderson was doing what every player who has worn that uniform does- go for the ball no matter what. He wasn't going in there to get hansbrough, even if he looks like he's been popped with the ugly stick a few times. And ohh yeah, how bout Hansbrough totally trying to go after him while holding back tears.

I'm a Kentucky fan, so needless to say I'm eating this up haha.
I think Roy Williams was pushing his luck leaving his star player in against a huge huge conference rival while up almost 14 points with a few seconds left in the game. It's what UNC gets for wanting to be cocky and run up the score.
It's even funnier to me to see Duke and UNC fans call it one way or another on whether Henderson did it intentionally. Duke fans say it was unintentional, UNC fans say it was a dirty play. This is how I see it (and I can be totally objective, I hate both teams equally):
Williams left in Hansbrough to run up the score against their arch rival. Feeding fuel to the fire to please UNC fans in their home arena.
Henderson played 30 minutes in that game and had 16 points. He wasn't put into take somebody out. I may not like Duke, but this is Duke and not Temple. And Coach K is no Cheney.
Henderson did go in under the basket, with the intention of committing a flagrant foul. Do I think he went in with the intention of bloodying Hansbrough's nose or attempting to put him out with injury? No. Do I think he went in and committed what we like to call a "frustration" foul? Yes. In that case it's a flagrant foul and the rules have to be enforced.
The officials did the right thing in following the rules.
The 2007 NCAA Official Men's/Women's Basketball Rulebook states in Section 17, Article 1 that a flagrant foul due to fighting is determined fighting by: "A. An attempt to strike and opponent with the arms, hands, legs or feet, B. An attempt to punch or kick an opponent, regardless of whether contact is made, C. An attempt to instrigate a fight by committing an unsportsmanlike act toward an opponent that causes the opponent to retaliate by fighting. As determined by the officials, fighting is a flagrant foul and can be either personal (during a live ball) or technical (during a dead ball)." The penalty for a flagrant foul for fighting is ejection from the game and suspension of one regular season game, including tournament games (see Section 19, Article 2).
And as far UNC being ruined, Hansbrough is going to play with a face mask for his broken nose. This is not unheard of. Chuck Hayes as a forward for Kentucky played with one the second half of the year after having his nose broken against Tennessee. 4 days later he played 20 minutes against Arkansas w/ 4 points (due to Arkansas defense instead of his nose) and then 7 days after having his nose broken put up 15 against Vanderbilt.
So pretty much it's time for everyone to get over it. If Hansbrough is that good he'll play through it because the best players do. If Duke is a good enough team someone will step up in Henderson's spot.

Whether it was intentional or accidental, Hansbrough deserves whatever he gets. It's just a shame he's going to wear a mask for a while. That's definitely going to obscure the ridiculous facial contortions he exhibits throughout each game. And those are the moments I live for. Now he'll just look like Tom Cruise's character in Vanilla Sky.

That was totally intentional. The ball was already out of his hands before the other guy came into the picture. By the way, it wasn't an elbow, it was the palm of his hand coming right down across Tyler's nose.

Yeah they won and yeah, that was sad. I wish people would stop wantin' pics of his nose. hey dukes? what if your presius J.J. Riddick got hurt last year? you would hunt the UNC boys for hurtin' him. am I right? knew it. just think how we feel. Oh, and for those people above me, if you watch the replay, Coach Roy had a subsotute to go in for Tyler! So just take it on back to Kentucky and just watch the replay! duh.
