What is easyest way to get up there? By boat or the road? We are thinking about the road. My sister lives up there, in Homer. We want to move up there and out of Spokane Washington. We have lived here all of our lives. Please help us. Which way is better?

It is very beautiful and wild up there but a boat would be the most relaxing way to travel and you can move your belongings along with you. Just buy your mosquito netting now and don't turn into bear crap. There are getting really used to people but every now and then they decide to eat one. You definately want to be there for the spring run of salmon. send me pictures please at my e-mail address of leeannbrry@yahoo.com label them Kenai Pen Pal. I'll write back to your whole family. I love talking to people who live in places I've always wanted to live. good luck up there and please write me of your new adventure. Lee Ann p.s. I hear the roads are atrocious this time of year, then they are two feet of mud.

Oh the places you'll go!

The Kenai (pr: key-nae), is a fabulous part of South Central Alaska. I live just north of Anchorage and spend quite a bit of time on the Kenai. My family owns a charter fishing boat in Homer, and of course it is one of our favorite places.

Gettin up here is a logistical exercise, but easily accomplished with a nominal effort, and you can go either way; land or sea.

On the water side the Alaska Marine Highway; The Alaska State Ferry (or as we call it the "Blue Canoe") offers you a great way to see the Inside Passage of Alaska, all the while traveling with your car and possessions. From Bellingham North and the adventure begins!

The highway (The Alaska Highway) is a grand adventure! I have traveled it 1377 times and counting. The lakes, mountains, wildlife, are truly spectacular.

Check out the links below to give you some ideas and such.

Have a great trip north regardless of how you choose (but, being your in Spokane, why not do the Canadian Rockies... Banff, Jasper?).

Driving or flying would be the best and easiest way. The drive would not be too bad. You could, as many people have, pull a trailer with the belongings you will need right away. Personally, I don't care to drive all that much. I would fly up and ship my belongings. There are many companies who will do that reasonably. However, if time is not an issue, the drive would be wonderful. Moneywise you would probably come out about the same.

Good luck, I think you will love Kenai and Homer. Both are great places to live.
