Unfortunately I am travelling with all of my belongings so the bus would be a bad idea.

Thomas Guide Maps & The Rand McNally Road Atlas are sold everywhere, but are always 25% off at Target stores. A nationwide atlas will cost about 25 dollars (at Target). But since they encompass such a large area, they are often too small to be functional, so you end up spending more money on several local maps. What I recommend is buying an in-car GPS system. It may sound unneccessary, but you'll find it really, REALLY does help, especially when you're driving across the country (presumably the US). Hope this helps! :) Or, use mapquest.

Also, I greatly disagree with Clevis D's answer (above). Taking the bus (even locally, well, at least here in Los Angeles) is horribly inconvenient, and you don't have the freedom to stop and see all the little landmarks, like mom n' pop diners & small towns on the road. That's when you really get to see the country. Or maybe it's just that living in an urban jungle like LA makes you want any rural living you can get.

PS your avatar looks horribly sad. :(

all major truck stops carry maps and so do book stores. However, I like the Rand McNally book type maps of the United States. The Truckers Bible as it were.

I bought my road atlas more than 10 years ago at one of the major bookstores. It has been invaluable and I have used it x-country many times. It's much better and easier to navigate than just maps. Enjoy your journey

Yeah i think that you should get a bus for your requirement ..as it would be the better one and safe also....

If you wanna buy map then you can get one from any major book store...or can find on net also ...but the print out will be not in your favor as it wont come proper...so buy one from store only.

Practically any book store will have maps. You may also be able to get them from tourism offices of the state(s) through which you'll be driving. And of course, there's always Mapquest ! :-)
