There is a real problem with trying to determine this as a fact:

We don't have any known samples of DNA from any of Jesus' family!

So, there may eventually be a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing toward that possibility but there will never be any concusive proof.

By the way, the documentary (docudrama?) did not conclude any such thing but only raised the question. Could it be or not? So, they have given rise to a question. Mch study and research will need to be done. The Israeli government will impead that research because they don't want that question explored. Teologians will riducule the research. And the question will always be in debate.

Think about it...

What DNA samples did Jesus leave behind? What girl did he get pregnant? How many artifacts from his crucifixion are selling on the black market? What family members' DNA did we have to compare with?

We have no idea which of the 20 million Jews who passed through that land during the Roman period we've actually found, and which one of the 1 million named "Judah" was in that tomb!

I don't know which is more astounding: the gullible people that fall for a hoax like this or the moral bankruptcy of the people making the claims!

I don't think so. Those bones could be anyones. How exactly would they be able to prove that they were Jesus' bones? There is no way. The DNA that they would get from the bones would just be DNA. it's not like we have a sample of Jesus' DNA at every DNA center. The movie was just a test of faith.

The Bible reads in Luke 24: verse 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. At the end of vs 5 it reads, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?" "He is not here He is risen!" vs. 9 reads, Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over he saw the strips of linen lying by them selves, vs. 50 reads When He had led them out to the vacinity of Bethany, He lifted up His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them He was taken up into Heaven. The full happenings is of course in the full chapter of Luke 24
Jesus truly is alive, and lived among us on earth for a while to know and feel what we do, so that He may truly understand first hand what we go through. He will be returning soon to take those of us who believe in Him, home with Him to Heaven. Before the Earth turns back to dust and water. God became flesh to dwell among us for a while, but now He is back in Heaven leaving us a part of himself, the Holy Spirit. Such as you may hear God in three persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God is God. He is not limited to our Human egsistence. He can be and go and do whatever He pleases. Our Human minds is what hold us back from trying to understand. But if we could understand fully right now, what kind of God would He be. But he isn't Human, He is GOD. So we will never fully understand until He wants us too. That is where Faith comes in. Just like we have faith to breath, and that our heart is going to keep beating, and the earth is not going to fall off of it's axis. We also need to believe in God. HE is our Creator, not some tadpoll, or a monkey.Evolution was actually created by a man, and on his death bed denied it. Stating that there is a God. That is human minds trying to understand in a scientific way, what can never be comprehended. Science likes visual facts. But there are no visual facts when it comes to faith. Just like breathing, how the stars keep multiplying, how to fathom eternity, when humans always know a beginning and an end. There is a God, and one much bigger than you and I could ever fathom. Just look at the detail of the tinest snow flake. That is not by mere accident. God is awesome.

Well the bible says that Jesus was resurected(easter), and he came back for three days. It says in the bible that in front of a crowd of people Jesus decended into the sky and there he emmited into eternal life. Correct me if I'm wrong , but if Jesus came back resurected wouldnt he have his bones back and he also flew up to heaven. So I don't think so because if he did descend into heaven wouldn't he take his bones? Only god knows for now and wil probably know forever.

Jesus rose back to Heaven so it is IMPOSSIBLE for his bones to be here on Earth.Since Jesus was a commmon name its some one elses bones but surely not the son of God. I think people are just desperate for something new to come up and they jump at the thought of Jesus' bones.

i have a few thoughts on this issue.

1. they found SOMEONE named jesus' bones.. whether it was THE jesus? who knows? i'm sure its possible.

2. i am a christian and i do believe christ was ressurected... but the belief is that god gives us a new, perfect body right? so why does he use our rotting bodies in the ground? is that necessary? does he create us brand new.. or does he use the damaged goods and ressurect us that way? i don't think anyone really knows... so why couldn't jesus have been resurrected and left his human, imperfect bones behind?

3. i think its just another one of those conspiracies to get everyone stirred up.... the world can't handle peace and quiet

no he didnt have bones because he rose from the dead and never died and decomposed to leave bones. i think they maybe could have found Jesus' tomb, the one they buried him in for three days, but i dont think so. and if they did im sure back then they wouldnt just leave that tomb open. they probably thru some other dead dude in there after Jesus got up and left and ascended into heaven, they dont have Jesus' DNA so they can never prove its Jesus. it could be any one in the world. its like finding a peice of wood and saying its from the cross, youll never know and you definately can't prove it.

Does it matter?

Whether they found the bones or not, Jesus lived thousands of years ago, and gave advice to people who lived in a society completely different from our own. Not only that, but there has been two thousand years of people adding and taking away to the book as it suits their needs. Even now, you could walk out one church and into the one accross the street, and they would both be bible believing churches that talk about different bible verses and talk about how the other church is full of satan's children on their way to heck because they just can't understand that the bible should be interpretted according to the way their all-knowing pastor interprets it.

Christians can't even get along well enough to get the story straight, and they are worried about a bag of bones from thousands of years ago. It sounds like there is a lot more to worry about than bones. Classes on interpersonal skills would be a great place to start.

Best of luck, bible thumpers!!

Not really: every few years somebody digs up some relic or other and parades it around as "proof" that its was connected to Jesus, Mary or Joseph or whoever: and every one of them eventually gets disproven - most of them as fakes.

Nonsense about "relics" has been a staple of religions for centuries: my own favorite is the story of the medieval Pope who had to arbitrate between two churches who each claimed to own St. John the Baptist' skull. Since one was bigger than the other (the skulls, not the churches) the Pope solemnly ruled that they were BOTH genuine: one was the skull of St. John as a youngster: the other his skull as an adult. Logical, no?
