I'm a life coach and I state this to all my clients what this means so they can search further within themselves. When I ask my clients to Believe In Yourself, I'm talking about getting them to go deeper inside themselves to find the following things:
Believing in yourself begins with first knowing what kind of power you have, what kind of power your thoughts have, and your determination to make anything possible. Belief in thoughts come from believing that Anything is possible because of determination & drive, faith, encouragement, and trust in what you know and feel. Every person on this earth has morals and it’s what they stand for & what they won’t tolerate; a person must believe that they’re doing the right thing when they’re being heard and being perceived as you want and needs to be perceived. Believing in what you’re capable of consists of being determined enough to have the drive to go out and get whatever makes you happy and knowing that you want to be happy for you; believing that you deserve happiness. I believe that a person should find out who they are and what they want others to see them as because I always say ‘Your first impression is your last’ because when someone sees you for the first time that’s how they’ll remember you. Knowing your own knowledge allows you to find your values that others will appreciate like your opinion, your honesty, and all the other great qualities you possess.

First, define the words in the phrase. believe and in and yourself.
what does each word mean to you? There is a factor called X, or the X-factor. you can usually find it on gatorade bottles that are sub-labeled "X-FACTOR". basically it says that the factor is the extra edge you need at the final part of the game, a factor that gives you hope and strength. hence the reason it's ona sports drink bottle. Who are you, what do you believe, why do you believe it, is it more then belief, what gave you this inthe first place. ask yourself why you would need to "believe in yourself" in the first place, adn who depends on you to belive in yourself. If you don't think you can do it, then you can't. Goal orientation is the motie of this often used and anonymos qoute, whether to make a final touch down at a high school football game, or to find a new reason to live, believing inyourself is crucial.

If You don't believe in yourself, why would you think that others would?

basically it means confidence. Are you confident. DO you believe you can do it? If you believe you can....well then you probably will.
Example: My son is 14. Starting High School next fall and has made out his course schedule with his future in mind (he wants to be a vet). He knows this now and has the confidence in his ability to take the classes, both hs and college, and pass and the belief in himself to say after I get my degree I will be able to open my own clinic. Hope this explained it so you understood....

The real point of the phrase is lost to many for they don't know what the Self is. For most of us, the Self is an idea. An idea is a symbol used to refer to something, but it is not the thing itself. The word tree refers to something but it is not the something it refers to. In order to "believe'" in yourself, I don't like that word, you have to get very quiet inside and learn to see what the self actually is. When you do, you will have no difficulty is having confidence in yourself, your abilities, or how to access the power. If yourself is an idea, you will have difficulty in doing these things for what you believe in is not alive or dynamic, but just a lifeless image.
Your belief in yourself can be shaken, if you have direct experience of who you are, nothing can undermine that.

Believe in yourself means....
See sometimes you set a goal which seems to be impossible but believe in yourself says when you think of achieving that goal then of course you can see it come true only with faith in your abilities and potential. So basically it says have lot of faith in what you do,feel or think...but that related to positive things.

There is power to make choices and create a life based upon the best use of strengths and skills.
You have to be honest about who you are and love yourself for trying whether or not you achieve success in each endeavor. You take risks and you make the effort.
You expect eventual success, you look for it, you wait for it and you are grateful when it comes.

It means to have self-confidence and the belief that you can accomplish your goals.
Believe it or not most people do not believe in themselves.
It is a common cliche but one that is not often practiced.
In critical situations most athletes do not have that "it" factor to put up or shut up. They choke under pressure. That is when you NEED to believe in yourself.

Now if you have a passion to achieve something and if you work out how to achieve it and you calculate the positive and negative aspect of it in which if view the negative aspect stronger then it means you are not keen in your goal but, though there are 80% negative if you are firm that you can surpass the negativity's then it means that you trust yourself

Believe in yourself and fulfil your potential
Self belief, self confidence, self esteem... whatever you call it, when you believe in yourself life becomes much, much easier.

You achieve more, you have less anxiety and you grasp opportunities as they arise.

It is a wonderful feeling when you know you can stand by your decisions, rely on yourself in difficult situations and overcome obstacles.

It is a condition when you are lacking in it, you will not live upto your potentials, despite your awesome skills. Greham Gooch says that Tendulkar is lacking in self belief, despite his skils remaining in tact.http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=64792. Kumble says that self belief brought him success.http://in.sports.yahoo.com/060311/43/62xkd.html

Simply put its that I can dot it attitude. Knowing you have worth and merit in your life and your personality. You deem yourself as an achiever.

However, the opposite can be said as well, procrastination, intimidation, lacking esteem, to severe depression.
