I was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. I currently live and work here. You ask aobut some fun places to shop? Well.. Roanoke's never been known for fantastic shopping, although they're finally moving up in the world of retail. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the city, however there are 2 medium sized malls found in the valley - Tanglewood, a bit run down, but trying to become revitalized, and Valley View, the larger of the two with more name brand stores. As far as fun, quirky little shops, I can suggest a few. Downtown, you'll find La De Da (a Bohemian type boutique)-rather pricey though, Gone CoCo (located inside the downtown Market Building), a cute little shoe boutique around the corner from La De Da (Dandelion's I believe it's called), and several more unique shops. Downtown is a great place to be on any Saturday morning. If you follow Franklin Road out, past Tanglewood Mall, across from Promenade Park, you'll find a variety of small boutique-like shops, recently built, and some still not yet open. There are a few clothing boutiques and a new pub located there. If you're in to costume and replica jewelry, head all the way out Willamson Road to our local flea market - Happy's, and visit Edna's Gifts... a GREAT little hole in the wall for David Yurman and John Hardy look alikes, and an abundance of other jewles!! On the bottom side of Tower's shopping center there are a few shops you might be interested in,too. Please let me know if you found this answer helpful. Feel free to email me with either comments or more questions.

Go to the local drug store and pick up a box of tampons. It says right there on the box that you can go horseback riding, skiing, roller skating, and all kinds of other fun things.
