Personally I would go for the Cougar. I work in a garage, and have never seen one in the shop, unlike the Mitsu, I see them all the time. Mitsubushi have a lot of problems with thier transmissions overall and engines leaking. Chrysler, who uses mitsubushi engines and transmissions on some of thier vehicles have quite a few problems with them, I see many of them on a daily basis. Ford, despite popular opinion, have fewer problems then Mitsubishi. I own a Ford myself and have never had a problem with it. I would sitck with the Cougar, a much more reliable car in my opinion. My mother ownes a Dodge Caravan (Mitsubushi engine and transmission) and its been leaking since brand new, the engine must have been resealed 4 or 5 times. and its 10 years old. If it needs something its done right there without hesitation. My entire family is like that with vehilces. Why prospone a problem when it can be fixed now.

search both and find out how many units were sold of each car. My guess is the cougar outsold the galant by a few hundred thousand .
Then search out, how many times each were recalled.

I'd go with the Cougar.

Well, from experience.. We had a 2000 Cougar, and just recently (with only 32,000 miles on it), the transmission went out. So needless to say I was NOT impressed with the cougar. I did love how the cougar looked though :)

The mitsu will come with a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. Mitsu use to have trans problems but they have worked that out now so they back thier cars with a outstanding warranty. I personally think the new galants are ugly as hell though.

that's a solid vehicle! Been there and have not had a controversy. of course it additionally relies upon on the present status. Is it in solid condition? Carfax verify is okay? Oil alterations and all? No significant maintenance? Mitsubishi is a properly-prevalent style and a intense competitor to Toyota in another worldwide places in Asia, Africa and Latin u.s., yet once you reside interior the States and you decide on a vehicle that is going to have extra effective resale fee, then persist with Toyota or Honda.

You don't have any other choices?? I hate Ford products but I would have to pick it over the Galant. It being a Jap car will cause nothing but problems.

You will find a lot of great info there. Look under the used cars tab to find all the info you would want(reliability ratings). Good luck.

p.s. I would go for the Galant.
