I don't think you should have to pay anything because it is not your responsibility nor your own child. I believe that your fiance should be the only one paying for that child since he is the one who helped conceive the child and it wasn't yours so you should have to help pay save your money for your own expenses, and make sure you bring the topic to your fiance attention so that he knows where exactly you stand in this situation -K- Good Luck!

He pays child support not you. But if you marry him the income given to his first child will have some residual effect on your family income. Best bet is to go to a financial planer and see where your finances are and if you can merge the incomes.

The sad thing is your attitude about his responsibility to support a child from a previous relationship. It indicates a lack of maturity on your part and a selfish attitude that will probably kill the relationship unless you get counseling!

You won't have to pay child support...they aren't your children. However, most states will allow your income to be considered when setting how much HE pays in child support.

Support is based on the income and expenses of each parent as well as how much time each parent has custody. Your boyfriend's attorney should be able to give you some idea how much the support order might change if you married him.

Wait until after he gets a final judgment for child support to marry him. They Will not be able to take your income, but it Will be considered. After the final judgment it can not be amended for two year in most States. So regardless to how much comes into the house hold the law says it cannot be amended. Then maybe the mother will leave it as is.

I don't know your jurisdiction, but I would guess that--while you are not responsible for this child--once you marry him your property and obligations will be community property and community debt. Thus you would share his obligations.

You can probably sign an agreement that will have the effect of removing you from lifetime responsibility for his child support.

You should really discuss all of this with an attorney who is well-versed in laws affecting community property in your state.

No, you are not technically financially responsible. Hopefully, though, you will all begin to feel like family and you will enjoy treating this child like your own.
