If I had never met him in person I'd probably think he was a mindless fool too. I'm probably the only person answering this question that has ever met him in person. I was at the 1997 McDonald's All American game as a reporter.
Artest befriended me when he saw the McDonald's staff was giving me a hard time. He even invitited me to hang out with him. Alot of other players were nice too Shane Battier, Elton Brand, Britten Johnsen, but nobody was more down to earth than Ron Artest. I know he's a good guy at heart, I personally think he may suffer from a chemical imbalance and hasn't gotten treatment.
Ron Artest wants to be a good citizen I believe that and it's more than you can say for some athletes like Pacman Jones to name a few. He's not a disgrace, he's a good guy who needs to seek a little counseling is all.

I remember reading that both the Bulls and Pacers thought Ron Artest have a chemical imbalance and needed treatment. He's been quoted as saying, "I've never taken medication (to control moods) in my life. Doctors have suggested it and I say, 'OK, give it to me.' But then I go home and I throw it in the garbage." There are times when Ron is a nice guy, and doesn't act up in the ways that have gotten him so much negative attention. I think if he got the kind of help he needed and actually did what doctors ask him to do, like take meds, he'd be a much different person.
As he is now, yes, he's a disgrace, but he's a disgrace that can be helped, he just has to realize that he needs that help.

I think Ron Artest is a digrace to himself ,if in fact he did all those things he is acussed of.Just because he can play basketball does not make him a role model.Basketball is how he makes his living,im sure you have people you work with that are jerks.

In terms of basketball fundamentals, he's a good player. But he has trouble keeping his cool, as seen during the Pistons-Pacers brawl. Plus, he's done some questionable things off the court.

No, the disgrace is that people still pay him an obscene amount of money to play basketball.

I think he's a disgrace to the human race. He seems to fit right in for basketball though.
