Looking for experienced advice on how I can connect a VCR to my computer and if there's any way I can use my computer to control the deck.

Just get a hardware encoder. I suggest DVD xpress from ADS. your vcr will connect to the box just like it does to a television. Then that box connects to your computer by usb. It will encode the video to mpg2 which is dvd standard. It also comes with the software to make your dvd's. It's fairly cheap too.

As far as controlling the deck from your PC, I'm not sure. But you can hook up the VCR to your PC if your graphics card has a video input. If it is integrated, or came with the PC, than more than likely it doesnt. You would have to buy a video card that has video input capability. Hope this helps!

i dont think you can, but if its movies you want to see check out peekvid.com its got tons of movies oh and also cartoons and much more. also the best part about it is that is 100% free and no viruses and no downloads. just click on the link and a window pops up and you sit back and enjoy. hope this helps.
