I work as a waitress in a restaurant, and every night come home smelling horrible. Usually a shower gets rid of the smell, but my hands still smell terrible afterward. Even after washing them a million times with all kinds of soap, they still smell. I've tried lemon too, but it didn't do much either.

What will get rid of the smell?

Go with the two answers of stainless steel. You can rub your hands on your kitchen sink or you can buy an oval piece of stainless steel (the soap shaped thing another writer referred to) at any good kitchen gear supply store. When I chop onion, garlic and anything else stinky, a few rubs does the trick! Lemon, vinegar, etc. does not work nearly as well as this and it is far less abrasive than these options. Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised!!

The stainless steel comment was right on the mark. At kitchen at bath shops they sell globs of the metal shaped like a bar of soap for just that reason - to get rid of stink. The reason why they work is scientifically sound: they break the ionic bond between you and the offending stink.
Give the sink idea a try and if that works, go buy one of the do dads at Bed Bath and Beyond simply because its easier.
Good Luck

Being a waitress shouldn't make your hands smell that bad that you can't get rid of the smell. Try bakingsoda witha little water and rub it on your hands for a few min and wash off. If that doesn't get the smell out then you better start wearing gloves at work.

What kind of food are you serving that smells that bad? Maybe it's where your putting your hands that smells i.e. the bleach bucket, or maybe the towels aren't clean. Generally a good anti-bacterial soap will do the trick as long as you wash them long enough to kill the germs. You should say the alphabet in your head to be sure you have washed them long enough.

While this is used primarily by mechanics, try using 'GOOP". It comes in an orange container, and is found in most automotive sections of stores, and sometimes in the cleaning aisle. It contains a petroleum distillate, namely gasoline, and is effective in removing heavy grease. It also contains citrus extracts, and has an orangey smell. The GOOP is slightly granular yet creamy, like cold cream, and will help scrub away any remnants off your hands. You may want to finish up with regular soap and water after using GOOP.

God, wow, that sux. I have the same problem with the horse farm. Come back from mucking and you don't want to be within 50 feet of me. It's hard to deal with but I'll tell you what, wet ones work. They've got such a powerful smell themselves that the smell goes away. I don't know if in your case it'll work but try it.

Don't ask me why this works, it just does.

Whenever I have any strong odors on my hands, they instantly go away if I wash my hands with running water while rubbing them against a stainless steel surface, such as a kitchen sink.

Try it out. It works.
