It's not about pain and suffering. It's about being able to listen to, and follow, your heart.

figure out who you are (or more importantly perhaps, who you want to be), your principles, your values, and stick to them
figure out what you want to do in life and persue it.
be kind to others, even when you disagree, but stand your ground the same.
respect peoples rights...
basically what i'm trying to say is to be forgiving to others, and atleast treat them civily when you disagree, and stand by your principles.
I recommend seeing the movie mr.smith goes to washington (some people think its hokey, but I love it and it has a good message) and another , this one i'm not sure of the title, I think it may be "12 angry men" or something like that, its about a jury on a trial and one man speaks out even though he is the only one with his opinion.
I know this message is a bit messy, but I hope you can take something from it. also, I reccomend reading some john locke, its good for everyone ^_~

believe in yourself, work hard, set goals, and save money. make friends with everyone you meet, contacts are always a good thing to have to be successful. be honest, and committed, and just do the best you can. Thats all anyone expects of you. It'll take time, but you can do it.
There's a childrens book called Raggad Dick... check it out

You can spend your life in servitude to me. My plans take thousands of years to accomplish but culminate with Mankind bringing life to a planet in a different solar system. I consider humanity to be a tool with which I can further my goals. Your servitude will last for thousands of life times and culminate in this one.

Really? Jesus said this: "whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake....will find it". You really want to be the man God would have you be? Give over your life into the keeping of Jesus Christ. There is no higher path you could walk on.
