Commercial interest. take for example American Idol, What social good behavior this program can offers? None, like we need more empty heads artists in this country.

Since the media remarkably rediscover prostitution every sweeps week, I am inclined to say commercial interest. I mean, does anybody really think there was weeks' worth of social responsibility in the stories about Anna Nicole?

i think it depends on the program. if its a well known news show that rely on ratings then it serves generally for commercial interest. even if they cover a human interest story it serves them because it characterizes their program channel of having upstanding morals for covering these things.
the real human interest stories i respect are the documentaries that i see on public access. the filmakers actually spend their lives devoted to the cause and spreading awareness. and the focus of public access leans more towards enrichment rather than big bucks (they do need telethons after all).

Read the telecommunication act of 1996 and ask yourself who stands to gain. Does the public gain with media mogols buy up the markets and also newspapers, and television stations all in the same geographical market?
