If you look at the rotors "edge on" there are two types: solid, and vented. The solid rotor will, of course, be one solid piece of metal. The vented rotor will look like two steel plates held apart with forged holes which act as "vents" to cool them.

If you look at the rotors "face on" and see holes drilled through then they are cross drilled. Cross drilled may be vented or solid.

Yes. Cross drilled means there are vent holes cast or drilled from one side if the rotor to the other. Vented rotors are machined or cast grooves in the faces of the rotors without going through the rotor itself. In my perspective, vented rotors are much more reliable as through holes may propagate cracks over time and heat cycles. I've this fact printed many places.

Vented rotors are standard on cars. Cross drilled do not build up as much heat and are more for performance. OR A LOT OF BRAKING.

yes vented discs are standard in most new cars but not all.
Cross-drilled discs dissipate heat quicker than vented but tend to
crack if yo r takin it on track or other heavy braking. Slotted discs r da best
