well... the worst thing i would have to say happened to me was being outcast by the children at school and in the neighborhood just for being different.

first, while i was living in australia, i was called a "wog", coz i was greek. nobody liked to hang out with me at first coz i was a wog. then when i finally managed to get considered an "aussie" i was discriminated against coz i was a "tomboy". the whole neighborhood had only boys and i happened to like acting like a boy and playing boys games and so they kept me on the sidelines coz they didnt want to risk me beating them in some stupid childs game and "losing from a girl"...dumb stuff, i know! but its the story of my life.

after a while, when i FINALLY managed to get them to accept me for who i am, we moved to greece and there my life started falling apart again: i was now considered "allodapi" (=greek slang for "foreigner"). i was the weird australian girl who talked with a funny accent and couldnt read. it didnt take me long to catch up of course and in less than a year, not only was i talking and reading like a normal greek kid, but i had become top of my class! a straight-A student!! ^_^ i was so proud of what i had accomplished, coz greek isnt exactly a cup of tea to learn and eccell at, but i had done it with a LOT of hard work and at the cost of my personal life. now i was considered a greek girl, but i was also considered "a nerd", a dorky teenager with no looks that had to compensate using her brains, a girl who never partied or went out for coffee, who had no friends, and who did nothing but study all day. it took a few years more to get THAT name off my back, but it was eventually accomplished. now... i am the half greek-half australian girl who not only eccells in all her subjects at school and at extracurricular lessons, but i also find time to party, go for coffee, hang out, excersize at my favorite stadium, where i play soccer with my guy-pals and also find time to look after my appearance.

SO F**K EVERYONE!!! I AM SELF-CREATED!! I MADE MY WAY ALONE THROUGH THE ADVERSITIES OF MY SO FAR LIFE AND I WANT TO SAY THIS TO ANYONE WHO IS OR WILL BE IN MY OLD POSSITION: "just be urself. dont u care about anything anyone says about u and only try to fit it when it truly characterizes u, otherwise not only will noone appreciate it, but u will make urself unhappy in the process."

I lived in a car with 2 children for a few months after I got divorced. This was a long time ago and we are fine now but it was pretty bad. I had a job that paid $20 a day (and not every day, at that) that disqualified us for welfare, no address disqualified us for food stamps and an ex they could not find to get child support. That was all more than 20 years ago. I got a little education, a better job, a little more education, a little better job, etc. eventually remarried and even had more kids, but it wasn't easy. God bless everyone who helped me along the way. Good luck to you!

I lived on the street for 6 months when I was 17. You pulled yourself up by your own bootstraps. Good job! This country needs more people like us, there would be alot less whining going on.
