My 9 month old came down with a very high fever for 4 days, it was 104.7 at one point. I took her to the doc twice and had blood work done as well. It suddenly resolved yesterday and now she is just tired and a bit cranky. There are no other symptoms and it is bugging me that there is no specific answer to this. How do I know it isn't something horrible or serious or long lasting??

I am assuming the doctor ran a CBC, Blood Culture, and maybe a UA/Culture. If all came up negative and she is not runny any fever now, its ok. She will not have any long last effects. If is very common for children to run fever. Fevers are the body's way of fighting off viral/bacterial infections. If you child had a bacterial or viral infection the blood work would have reflect this. Your child will run a fever many times after this, its just part of being a kid. Four days of fever is typical of childhood virus. The reason why pedi offices state the child needs to be seen at 3 days is to r/o a bacterial infection.

I don't know why your child had a fever like that, but I do know that children at that age can carry much higher temperatures than we as adults can without having any damage occur. It sure gets scary when your little one gets sick, especially when you can't seem to find the cause. Since it has now passed, it must have just been some sort of virus and it has run its course and gone away. I'm sure she will be fine. It is normal for her to be tired and cranky after being sick that way and it will soon pass. Poor girl! I wouldn't worry though. You've probably seen the last of that old bug.

The first thing that came to my mind was an ear infection because all my kids had them and would run high fevers with them. The doctor checked the ears and throat and chest I assume. The baby is still cranky I think I would go back again or get another opinion. I hope the baby feels better soon.

Sounds like teething, she is right at that age, and fevers are very common at this time, don't freak out, it will only make matters worse, my nephew is starting to teeth, we use Baby Orajel on his gums, and he still gets really cranky, and it's normal, you have to realize they have teeth sprouting up through their little gums, very painful!!..

For the fever if it comes back I'd try Concentrated Tylenol Infant's Drops, it's a fever reducer/pain reliever.. It works for my nephew..

Also try some teething toys for her, get some with gel inside them that doesn't completely freeze because the ones you can freeze are really good, because it somewhat numbs the gums and my nephew just loves them..

Good luck, and just be patient she is hurting more than you..

Sometimes babies run fevers and there are no definite causes. Is she teething? Has she recently had any vaccinations? Both can cause fevers. If she is fine now then I wouldn't worry about it. Just cuddle and nurse her often to keep her healthy and happy.

if she breaks out in a rash all over, dont freak out, its likely roseola. thats a very common illness in childre under a year old.. a few days of high fever, then wen illness is over they break out in a rash all over. its a "possibility" anyway. if not, its probably just a virus thats resolved itself.

See the doctor again if you are concerned.

Keep baby cool. Give him lukewarm baths. And whatever medicdation the doc has recommended

Have her drink a lot of fluids so she doesn't dehydrate. It could be from teething.
