Sure they swept the Grammy Awards, but apparently the Dixie Chicks don't fly with the Academy of Country Music.

You know, I think the Academy of Country Music should lighten up. What's done is done. They made a mistake at a critical time in history, and they paid the price in sales, reputation, and loss of fans. So why continue to hammer away at them? It's ridiculous and it's unfair. Forgive me for saying this, but the Academy is starting to sound like a bunch of hoity-toity prima donnas . Comments?

Have you ever done something or said something that you shouldn't have said? Did you not want "forgiveness?" Or were you hell bent on people hanging your faults over your head?

I don't agree with your statement that the Dixie Chicks made a mistake at all, nor do I feel they feel that way either. The Dixie Chicks did what every American who has a voice and a conscience should do, help save this country, is all they did any fan they lost was replenished shortly thereafter. I think the Dixie Chicks are proud of their statements and they should be. In my opinion the Dixie Chicks reputation is the best it's ever been and getting better all the time. The Iraq occupation is wrong , dead wrong, if you don't agree you are mad. Period !

I do not believe that they made a mistake. They have the freedom of speech just like any other American. In my opinion just because they are famous does not mean that they cannot say what is on their minds. I was and still am outraged at the response they were given by their fellow Americans. I have more respect for them now than I have ever had. I'm glad they aren't Ready To Make Nice Yet. Neither am I about the current state of affairs in this country when someone cannot make a comment without being questioned on your "patriotism".
The Academy of Country Music has made mistakes on snubbing artists in the past. Johnny Cash is a prime example. The rock world always respected Johnny Cash and gave him the credos he deserved. While the Academy of Country Music snubbed him several times while he was recognized by the rock community. If country music doesn't want the Dixie Chicks then those of us in the rock world will.
Kudos to you Dixie Chicks for not giving into adversity and sticking to your beliefs!!

LMAO - Do you REALLY think 'Not Ready to Make Nice' was the BEST song you heard last year?

They got the Grammy for career suicide, if NRTMN - DC is that good , Ani DiFranco should already have a dozen Grammys!!
'Not Ready ' was good enough music to release and good enough maybe for a Grammy, BUT IT AIN"T COUNTRY
or a least not COUNTRY enough
The Chicks had transcended 'country music'
At the same time IMO The Chicks were GIVEN their GRAMMY, not earned on ARTISTIC merit
bashing ACM for ignoring the DC release in 2006 is like bashing NAACP or Soul Train Awards for never recognizing Charlie Pride
You know Mr. Pride?
Pioneer Country Star who is BLACK?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Pride
why don't AMA give him a lifetime achievement, he's earned it!!
I have bought ALL the DC Cd's (to learn their songs 'cuz I'm a hired musician) and have backed up singers covering their songs
'Not Ready to Make Nice' was only hot as a request for a short while. I still get requests for 'Wide Open Spaces' and 'Earl had to Die'. no one wants to hear this 'song of the year'
FREEDOM OF SPEECH don't guarantee an audience!!

I think the Dixie Chicks would probably get pretty pissed off at you for saying that they made a mistake.

Theyre "Not Ready to Make Nice". Havent you heard? Theyre not backin down from what they said, theyre stickin with it.

That being said, I do agree as far as the ACM is concerned.

The Dixie Chicks had every right to express their opinion, and their former fans/the ACM also have every right to express theirs. The Chicks seem content to have lost so much of their country fans and to have replaced whatever fraction of their fan base they replaced with the leftie elite, so the ACM's reaction shouldn't be all that surprising.

the ACM can kiss the Dixies Chix butts. they dont need them. just like they didnt need the radio stations that dissed em all they care about is their fans and how well they do on tour. Im proud that Natalie used her freedom of speech; its every americans right. Anyhoo theyre goin for a new genre...the country scenes gettin old for them lol.

Well, I don't feel sorry for the Chicks, whom I like BECAUSE of the controversy (shallow reason, I know, but I would never have given them a listen otherwise, and they sound pretty darn good, with Chad Smith on drums and Rick Rubin producing, to boot).

The DCs are big girls and I think are at peace with where they are. I admire people with the courage of sincere conviction.

I do not think they made a mistake. I think they spoke their personal opinions on some issues that touched the nerves of some people, and now most of those same people pretty much agree with them. Sort of ahead of their time more than anything else.

And how can anyone say they are American and not support free speech?

i feel that the Dixie Chicks said something that the rest of America has been thinking and saying themselves. the fact that the Chicks r famous and they said it out loud to people they r now being punished. and they shouldnt be. they r just expressing themselves and their 1st amendment. i think that people should just leave them alone and i think that the Chicks r awesome!!!!!

the dixie chicks are awful and need to be kicked out of America. there music sucks they suck and they didnt deserve 5 grammys, they wun those as a political statement. Any of the other nominees were better than those dumb hillbillys. they should never be played on a radio station anywhere, they dont even get played in texas. thats one of the biggest country markets in the u.s. so that should be enough to warrant them bein awful singers.
