Prenatal visits are important for the health of both the infant and the mother. Health care providers can educate mothers on important health issues such as diet and nutrition, exercise, immunizations, weight gain, and abstaining from drugs and alcohol.1 Health professionals also have an opportunity to instruct expectant parents on nutrition for their newborn, the benefits of breastfeeding, and injury and illness prevention, diagnose health-compromising conditions, and help them prepare for the new emotional challenges of caring for an infant.2

Mothers who receive late or no prenatal care are more likely to have babies with health problems. Mothers who do not receive prenatal are three times more likely to give birth to a low weight baby and their baby is five times more likely to die.3 However, there is concern among some health researchers that increased use of prenatal care alone may not be sufficient to bring further substantial improvements in birth outcomes. Many women who lack adequate care also have social risk factors related to low socioeconomic status and young age that cannot be fully addressed through more adequate prenatal care.4

Going to the doctor is the most important part of your pregnancy. Whatever the reason you haven't gone, wether you were scared or just didn't know where to go, just make an appt. and see an OB/GYN. I'm sure they will tell you that you should have come the first minute you knew you were expecting, but they'll get over it. Your baby's health is more important than what some doctor thinks. Don't let a mistake the past 5 months carry on to your child. Having a child is very happy, but stressful, and making it any harder on yourself isn't worth it. (Trust me, I was a mom at 15 years old and went the day after I found out.)

Go to the doctor. You need to have your blood tested to make sure everything is fine and by now you should have had an ultrasound to check for any defects the baby could have. If you aren't concerned about your own health then at least think of the poor baby.

You definatley need to go to the doctor. Some practices wont see you because you are farther than 3 months. Just in case something goes wrong that cant be held for malpractice. But if you can than, than you should. They need to test your urine and blood for all sorts of things. Be safe, its best for the baby.

Just one reason you should go is to get tested to see if you are RH-. If you are you have to get a shot at 28 weeks and after the baby is born to prevent future children of potentially dying in your womb.
That is just one of the MANY reasons you should go

It's silly to think that pre-natal care offers miracles, but the phrasing of your 'question' suggests you really do need to hear a doctor or midwife's standard patter on taking care of yourself...
