I would think natural search optimization refers to the kind of tactic that allows these things to fall into place on their own, without further manipulation.

http://ewebsmith.com has a free link to Brad Callen's SEO book. He recommends that you don't submit your site and use other methods. It's a very good book. You can also get his training for free there.
