The penalties for armed robbery are determined by state law. The penalty in California may be different than the penalty in Texas. You need to specify where you are from to get the proper answer.
Also, the sentence may depend on many factors in the discretion of the judge. Here in California, many of our criminal sentencing laws have 3 choices for sentencing depending on the severity of the crime. And of course, the defendant could even receive a life sentence in a "three strikes" case.

It all depends if the person has any "priors" - any other arrests and it also depends on if the person was trying to rob a bank or a convenient store, it also depends on what state this robbery occurred in and it REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW GOOD HIS ATTORNEY IS AT HIS JOB.

I believe it's 10 - 20 with parole...but I'm not sure.
I know it's not a good thing. You aren't planning on this, are you?
