You might want to look up a local reptile vet in your area. This sounds like a serious problem. I know that popping noises from the snakes spine are not all that rare, but it the sounds are coming from the mouth, you need to have her seen. And a 3-week shed isn't good either. A shed should take no more than a few days, and that is if its a bad shed. My snake sheds in a matter of minutes.

For the shedding, boost the humidity while the snake is in shed. It helps the skin come off easier. Also make sure that the snake sheds its eyecaps. These are often trouble spots during a bad shed. As for the other problems, she NEEDs to be seen by a vet.

What you are describing sounds like pneumonia from keeping the snake too cool. The shed takes 3 weeks which indicates a lack of activity. The puffing up with air and a popping sound sounds like the lungs have fluid in them. You soak the snake in warm water and the breathing gets better for a day. Close ?
Try warming the snake to about 85* F for a few days. I don't know the type of enclosure that you have but a 10 gallon aquarium with a good metal lid ( no plastic rim) and a 60 watt light bulb offset to one side will warm the aquarium to about 85*. See if there is any improvement. Mites are another matter and can cause septicemia (sp). They can be treated with a Vapona pest strip (It looks like a piece of cheese in a paper hanger) hung in the snake room. CAUTION ! Do not use the strip with water in the cage and keep it away from AQUATIC life. The strip gives off an aromatic pesticide that is absorbed in water and will dissolve into the water and kill anything that is in the water or drinks it. Clear up the lung problem first. For the mites, take the water bowl out of the cage and hang the pest strip in the room for 10 days... this will not hurt the snake... then remove the strip, water the snake and then repeat for another 10 days. This will kill all the mites in the room and stop the re-infestation. Good luck.

There's no way you can avoid a vet appointment here in my opinion. I suggest giving the snake daily soaks to help with the shde and make sure the humidity in the tank is at the required levels. *Almost* every time a problem with sheeding occurs it's usually a humidity issue causing it.

The mite's will need to be treated with some kind of mite treatment, and your going to have to clean the tank VERY well multiple times a week with dilluted bleach to kill off any egg's remaining in the cage. I suggest a temporary habitat for your snake in an adequate sized rubbermaid container.

Call your local herp vet and get an appointment immediately.

It looks like it's time to see a vet. Although I'm not sure about the air popping...um...condition, mites and a bad shed are reasons enough to have her checked out.

They can be costly, but finding a good vet for your snake is vital, and she'll probably need regular check-ups with the mites (once every couple of months). If you have a state university in your area, try their vet school- they'll usually provide free or reduced vet bills for letting the vet students get hands on experience.

Alot of good advice has been given. Poor Snake is rite if your snake has mites thats one problem, bad sheds thats another, poping sounds from the mouth area not good bloting not good.sounds like the snake has respatory problems and a intestianal problem common when snakes are not taken care of. mites to a snake are like fleas to a dog sept the poor snake cant itch them away. and that alone will stress them out. 1st get it to a vet who handles snakes and understands them. Get some pro Zap for the mites some pet stores who deal with snakes can hook u up or the vet. have some one clean the tank or whatever you are housing the snake in with a 5% bleach and water mix or a little stronger if you have a bad infesttation.clean everything do it out doors if possible make sure you clean the entire room the snake is in also vacuum with clean bag installed and discard proply when done you will have to keep the tank clean from here on out.I use News papers in mine much easyier to clean. start giving her a bath once or twice a month in a mild antibacteril soap dry her off good and keep her warm.I use this rule clean her tank give her a bath...Now for the rest The vet will have to take care of she may not be able to be saved. Read a troubleshooting guide to ball pythons online alot of helpful hints on the care of snakes...Good luck and sorry if I sound harsh but I see alot of people on here who have no clue. When all they would have to do is type in careing for ball pythons or bremes, retics, bloods, boa's or what ever they own and educate themselves.....Goodluck and I hope your snake will be ok keep us informed.

holy cow! I am truly surprised your snake is not dead-sorry but what you are describing sounds like full blown pneumonia and added to that is dehydration from mite infestation and possibly stomatitus from both dehydration and mites

if you haven't already taken this animal to a vet do it now!

stop soaking keep it warm (90 or so)and take it to a vet now!
