Confront them with the insinuation or berating remark they made to me or about me! I am quite generally unaffected by a slight or rudeness when it is "iffy" whether or not the person intended to harm. But with certain persons; you learn their tactics and are forewarned therefor forearmed so to speak. Don't let them ply their nastiness!! Call them on their insincerity and ruthless disregard for other peoples feelings. Their gleeful satisfaction when one of their nasty barbs zero's in on someone cutting them to the core! It's disgusting to see people like this! They are Alligators in human form! Tell them! Then tell them again!!! Then tell them what you told them again!!! And do it in front of witnesses if possible! Now charge! If this person is someone you must daily see---- you cannot walk away. Jesus said after forgiving you live as peacefully as YOU can with them, that sounds like "as much as you are able to bear, do so." But that is my take, each must do as their heart and belief leads them. I say go gettum!

I'd ignore them.
The reason people (and bullies) usually taunt others is because they want to provoke them. So ignoring them wouldn't give them the result they were looking for, and (usually) after a while they would see you weren't going to bite back, and go on their merry way to try and frazzle someone else.

People cannot "disrespect" you. When you have a solid sense of yourself, plenty of self-esteem and plenty of self respect - no one can say anything to you that would require an action.

A mature person will just walk away. A mature person doesn't deal with childishness.

Well, for the example given, if I was in a mood to bite back, I would:

Smile brightly, pat my hair in feigned embarrassment and say, "Oh, thanks for reminding me...I keep meaning to ask where you bought yours from," then walk off.

Not very original, I'm sure, but it's been known to work.

giving them the "silent treatment" really works. when they say something and u do not answer it makes them feel like a loser. and if what ever they say to u "crosses the border" then let them know u do not take **** and u put them in there place.

keep saying bad things about them from uglieness to stupidity, whene my sister says one thing about me not that bad, i go on and on and than make fun of how she just keeps on saying "shut up" and then she says it again without thinking and finally she gives up, i mean really, if you start something brace yourself for it to come around just as hard or even wrose. (but remember, doing the same thing just makes you the same kind of person)

don't say anything and if you're with a group of friends wait till one of you're buddies says something and say "why don't you put that on your plate and eat it" it'll make the idiot who came up to you feel stupid plus it'll make you look like you totally don't care, plus it's fun to laugh at!
