You can trade Miis with your friends and write them messages. If you have Miis made public in their Mii settings, and you have friends in your adress book, those Miis will eventually copy themselves to your friends console(s). You can check news and weather worldwide, surf the internet and shop in the Shop channel.
In the shop channel, Nintendo will also update some "behind the scene" info news.
There is a new "Everybody Votes" channel, where you can vote on different topics, guess which vote on a topic will win and so on.
There will always be new channels coming out for the Wii via the WiFi connection.

The Virtual Console is the best part. Downloading classic Nintendo and Sega games is realy cool.

I don't know if its cool, but you can surf the web, check weather, take part in polls tranfer pics, stuffs always changin'!
