I would be retarded if I said he was not overpaid, but it was an excellent decision nonetheless. The 49ers need playmakers in their secondary with the receivers they face in their division (Holt, Boldin, Fitzgerald, Jackson). As for the signing, this is the direction free agency is going, and with a weak class, he was a diamond. Any other team who signed him would have had to paid a lot of money. The 49ers guaranteed him 22 million, so once he has gotten that his contract can be changed, he can be released, and the 49ers will still have money in their salary cap. As for the person who said 10 million a year, you are wrong. The first year is like 3 million, and then it continues to raise as his 8 years progress.

I don't know if anyone playing a game is worth $10 million dollars a year.

And I would really want to know what the other teams were offering when he signed with the 49ers. The Browns, for instance, were interested - but when did they drop out of the bidding?

Its really going to take a full season to find out if he was worth that money. But right now I would probably have to say no.

It was absolutely worth it, on a few levels. Being a niners fan, I have big opinions on this. Every team in our division has big name receivers(Jackson, Holt, Fitzgerald, Boldin). We have a lot to combat. We picked up two guys who are going to be good in coverage for us. Clements is a top 5 corner when he is on his game. The signing also created a lot of buzz around the niners and has, will interest a lot of people in coming to the niners. York has been stingy with his money in the past. This broke that stigma. Good for him.

I am a NINER fan and honestly i didnt and dont think it was a wise choice...however, remember that he won't receive all this cash unless he performs what he is expected which i doubt since 8 years is alot. the contract read that 22 million was guaranteed, he would have to earn the rest by succeeding in this niner secondary...go NINERS!!!

obviously that is a huge contract to give to a cornerback, but considering how close they are to winning now and how desperately they needed help at that position, it was probably worth it for them to get him at any cost just about

Yeah because the play against tough receivers and they can't win in that division without someone to stop them.
